Zero to Hero is a great way to get a comprehensive, immersive beginner experience.

I am coming with a friend, and we have both never kitesurfed before.Which lessons package should we book?

If you are staying for 4 or more days, then you should book our 10-hours semi-private lessons package for both of you. It will cover the course level up to waterstart and your first tries to get on the board. The package price is 350 EUR/person and includes all equipment. After the 10 hours are completed, you will discuss with your instructor how to proceed with the lessons.  If my friend/partner/family member doesn’t finish the pre-booked semi-private lessons package for any reason, the remaining amount is calculated and turned into time for private lessons at the same cost.

If I book a certain lessons package and I want to continue after, is that possible? How?

Of course. You can discuss with your instructor and/or our Reception Desk Managers which lessons you should book next.

Is learning kitesurfing safe?

Yes, very. We teach extremely very short lines, 6m, which makes learning kitesurfing actually completely safe, even for young children and adults over 60 years old, even in very strong winds. Moreover, we teach with boat assistance after waterstart level, and wireless BBTalkin system, which allows the student to have communication with the instructor all the time.

What is the minimum age to start learning kitesurfing?

It’s recommended that the child is at least 6 years old when he/she starts learning kitesurf, although our youngest student is only 4 years old. What is more, kitesurfing is considered the easiest and safest watersport and it’s suitable even for people in their 60s.

Where should I book lessons: Lefkadi or Marmari? Why?

The last few years the wind conditions in Marmari have been more than excellent also in Spring, so we open Marmari Surf Club right after Easter and close at the end of October. Lefkadi is just 2h drive from Marmari, so if the conditions are good there, our team can recommend taking a day or two to travel to Lefkadi and kitesurf there too.

I haven’t tried kitesurfing, but I have been windsurfing/surfing/ wakeboarding. Does that matter and which lessons package should I choose to book?

The best option for you to book is our 6h Beginner Private Kitesurfing Package. You will work 1:1 with the instructor and follow your own progress. We don’t recommend pre-booking the whole Zero to Hero course, as you might progress faster due to your sports background and experience.

Should I be able to swim before I start kitesurfing lessons?

It’s not necessary. The kitesurfing safety equipment will make sure you always stay above the water, and we also teach with a boat assistance, so you are safe at any point of the lessons. You will also learn bodydragging, which is basically the ability to go on the shore with the help of your kite and/or board, which both keep you floating above the water. Kiteboarding is more finesse than strength. You are hooked in with a harness to control the power of the wind so it takes very little upper body strength. Being in better shape may help you learn a little faster, but we have taught people of all ages, shapes, and sizes.

You just should be comfortable in the water!

How long does it take to learn to kiteboard?

In general, we suggest to plan for at least 3 days of kiteboarding with a KiteGreece instructor to make you a self-sufficient kiteboarder. The more lessons you take, the further you will get since your coach will help you maximize your time on the water. Previous experience with board sports, wind sports, and kite flying will all help you progress faster.

Do I need lessons?

Absolutely yes! Kiteboarding is a technical sport and kites have a lot of power. With lessons, you will learn how to control the kite so that you can enjoy the fun of kiteboarding safely. You wouldn’t try scuba diving or paragliding without lessons and you shouldn’t try kiteboarding without a lessons either. Lessons will also drastically speed up your progression.
If you are already riding, lessons will push your progression to the next level.

What can I do to prepare for my lessons?

Kiteboarding uses large muscle groups so working your legs, core and back will help you stay fresh for your time with your KiteGreece instructor. Yoga and anything you can do to improve your flexibility is also recommended.

How long does it take to learn to kiteboard?

Generally speaking, with the KiteGreece coaching program it take 3 days to become a self-sufficient kiteboarder, 10 days to stay up wind and 20 days to jump. If you come with strong kite and board skills you will learn faster. The more time you have on the water with a KiteGreece instructor, the farther up the learning curve you will get.

Who can join me for a Semi-Private Lesson?

During a Semi-Private lesson, you and your friend or family member will take turns using the kite so should be similar weight and ability level. Semi-Privates are a great way to make the lesson extra fun by sharing it with someone else. It is also really helpful to your learning process to be able to watch someone working on similar skills while talking with the coach; it helps you get a better understanding of how everything works together and often provides great breakthroughs.

BEFORE AND DURING YOUR LESSON

What should I bring?

Students are required to have their own water wear. This includes a pair or watershoes/booties, sunscreen, a standard bathing suit, and/or wetsuits ranging in thickness depending on the season.

If you do not have any of this, do not worry. The KiteGreece Surf Schools are always stocked with the finest water wear and accessories so you can be comfortable on and off the water. During your lesson, you will have access to our storages and rental shops, both in Lefkadi and Marmari, which are stocked with the latest gear to make sure we have the right set-up for you to learn in all conditions. We have kites as small as 5 meters and as big as 12 meters. This is also a great time to try the gear you might be interested in buying.
All in all, it’s always a good idea to bring a cap for the sun, sun protection, and a bottle of water. All the rest you can leave to us.

What time should I arrive?

Plan to arrive 15-30 minutes before your scheduled lesson time (9:30-9:45 am for your 10 am lesson, etc.). This will give you time to sign a waiver, get booties if you need them, meet your instructor, and make a plan for your lesson.

Is there a place for family and friends to watch?

For kite lessons, you can observe some of the lesson from our Lounge Area and Marmari Beach Bar. We do use a large teaching area in the water (thanks to using a boat as well), so you may not be able to watch the whole lesson.

What if there is no wind?

If there is no wind, we request that you show up and meet up with your instructor to make a plan for the day. If there is no wind at the schedule time of your lesson, we will push back to reschedule on the day of your lesson. The great thing about both Lefkadi and Marmari is that the wind is never far away and it is often much better than what is forecasted. Usually the thermal wind in Lefkadi is not on the forecast, and the meltemi in Marmari is 5-6 knots more than the forecast due to the specific situation of the kite spot.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule my lesson?

If you need to cancel your lessons you can do so up to 14 days before the scheduled lesson with no cancellation fees. From 14 to 7 days prior to arrival 30% cancellation fee will apply. From 7 to 3 days prior to arrival, 60% cancellation fee will apply. If you cancel your lesson less than 3 days and up to 24 before the scheduled time, 80% cancellation fee will apply. For less than 24 hours or no-show, no refund will be given. If you need to reschedule your lesson, you can do so up to 24 hours before the scheduled appointment. For less than 24 hours, no refund will be given.

What are the next steps after my lessons?

Your KiteGreece instructor will help make a customized plan for you at the end of your lesson based on your progress during the lesson. They can help you get the right kiteboarding gear so you can keep practicing.
